New recruits to the Carers Worldwide team have been taking place! Joining us are Simon Godziek, Fundraising and Programmes Associate and Sophie Batchelor, Fundraiser – Corporate, Events and Individual Giving. Here is a little bit more about who they are and what they do…

Simon Godziek – Fundraising and Programmes Associate

As Fundraising and Programmes Associate, there are two distinct sides to my job. The first is to lead on researching and writing fundraising proposals for trusts and foundations, and to participate in the larger applications to the likes of UK Aid Direct. The second strand of my role is to liaise with our partner organisations in Nepal and eventually throughout the Indian sub-continent. The fact that I live in Nepal is a definite advantage for liaising!

I bring to this role upwards of 17 years international development experience, firstly in projects and programmes with NGOs, and more recently as an independent consultant.  From the start and throughout, I have been part of a team that works on project funding proposals, and all my NGO work has involved working very closely in collaboration with local organisations in Asia and Africa.  I’m sure I have made in excess of 25 trips from the UK to the sub-continent, and really enjoy working with local people and their organisations.

I have known Anil for a number of years and have worked with Carers Worldwide previously in a freelance capacity. As with many people, my reaction when Anil first explained the work of Carers Worldwide to me was an immediate recognition that it seeks to correct the fact that carers are a completely missing dimension of international development. I was struck with how the Carers Worldwide approach was thoroughly-researched and eminently practical and I look forward to contributing to the ongoing success of the work.

I feel Carers Worldwide could well be on the brink of a major breakthrough in scaling up their work, thereby being able to improve the quality of lives of ever more carers – and in turn that of the people for whom they care.  I’ve always been very interested in work that’s genuinely innovative, and so I welcome the opportunity to be able to make my contribution.”

Sophie Batchelor, Fundraiser – Corporate, Events and Individual Giving

“In this role I am a fundraiser who focuses specifically on community and events, corporate financing, and individual giving. After gaining experience in a range of domestic NGOs, I feel now is a great time in my career to branch out into the international charity sector. Travelling extensively across India, I became passionate about developing countries and it was then that I realised I wanted a career move in to this sector.

I bring to this role more than 8 years charity sector experience. Previous organizations I have worked for are: RNIB, Mencap, Blind Veterans and Action on Hearing Loss. Throughout these roles I was responsible for creating fundraising initiatives including ‘Glow Neon’ fun runs’ and supporting volunteer groups to set up comedy and dating-in-the-dark events. In my previous roles I was also responsible for supporting frontline staff with service delivery so I also have a valuable insight into the service delivery side.

I am delighted to have joined the Carers Worldwide team and I look forward to bringing my existing knowledge to the role!”

We are excited to be working with both Simon and Sophie and are sure they will be successful additions to our team!
